Building futures of hope: workshop programs that hone creative writing skills and prepare for real-world performances to help pave the way to a safe and fulfilling life after prison
how it works
Unchained workshops are a continuation of our mentorship programme and focus on preparing our mentees for a final performance at Unchained Nights as well as to prepare for more long-term, life goals.

Our workshops can also be the starting point for some people's journey towards Becoming Unchained, who may already have been recently released from prison, but who are still in need of guidance, support and a safe space to express themselves while identifying the reasons and steps that lead them to become incarcerated in the first place.

While continuing to focus on the 4 pillars - employment, environment, education & relationships - we don't just prepare mentees for what is often their very first live performance, we help them to self-evaluate their performance using footage from the night[s] as well as by listening to feedback from peers and team members.

Throughout this stage of our programme we help to develop the soft skills and experience that will impact their development and agency in the future such as using email correspondence in a professional context, navigating social media in order to find their tribe and galvanise positive community interactions and developing appropriate tone and voice for various kinds of social and professional interactions.
